Tie-dyeing has a long history. Originated in the Yellow River Basin. When it originated is inconclusive. According to records, as early as the Eastern Jin Dynasty, there was a large number of production of tie-knot anti-dyeing twisted valerian silk. In the works of the Eastern Jin Dynasty in 408 AD, the process of tie-dyeing was already mature as early as the Eastern Jin Dynasty. At that time, the twisted valerian products had relatively simple small cluster patterns, such as butterflies, wintersweet, begonia, etc. There are also whole patterns, such as "fish roe valerian" with small white dots, "agate valerian" with slightly larger dots, and "deer fetus valerian" with purple and white spots resembling sika deer. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties, tie-dye products were widely used to Han women's clothing. The Tang Dynasty was the heyday of ancient Chinese culture, and the twisted textiles were very popular and more common, and the "green and green dress" became the basic style of the Tang Dynasty fashion. During the Northern Song Dynasty, wringing products were widely popular in the Central Plains and northern regions.
